The government has proposed a ridiculous rate for nurses who have been on strike for months. The government’s proposed figure is a 5.5% increase. Nurses who saw the figure were both angry and laughed. It is likely that members of the government who thought nurses worthy of such a ridiculous figure also laughed.

Meanwhile, the unions continue to protest against the Labour Party, which is holding its first congress since the election in Liverpool, due to the removal of energy support for pensioners.

One union member said the following: ‘We pensioners have no donors. No one pays for our holidays or clothing. No one gives us freebies. The Prime Minister and ministers have donors and they only save their salaries, but we only have low salaries. So we don’t expect Starmer and other donor ministers to understand us.’
