Sunak’s 1-year compulsory military service bill caused confusion

PM Rishi Sunak said he would introduce a new form of compulsory National Service for young people if the Conservatives win the general election. 18-year-olds will be given the option of a full-time military service for 12 months or a volunteer scheme for a month. In other words, compulsory military service will be applied to young people who have reached the age of 18. Young people who serve in the military for 1 year will then continue their normal lives.

What we don’t understand is this: Why does a prime minister force young people to do compulsory military service while going to an election? Maybe he thinks that young people are dying to join the military. Military service is a waste of time for young people who have turned 18. Also, is it boys or girls and boys who have turned 18?

Frankly, we had a hard time understanding what it means to do voluntary military service for a week. What will young people who volunteer for military service in the last week of each month for a year learn?

Sunak has to explain the logic of the bill. If young people are going to serve in the military for a year and earn money, maybe they can vote, but free military service will do nothing but harm conservatives.
